Birds are among the main units that form the biocénoses in forests. The objective of this thesis is to study the importance and diversity of birds at the level of the Machroha forest (state of Souk Ahras - Northeast Algeria). The study was launched in November 2018, until July 2022. The surveys are done by the sampling method of point indices of abundance (IPA) during the breeding periods and the progressive frequency estimation (PFE) in postnuptial and prenuptial periods. We observed 116 species of forest birds (45 families / 19 orders). Passeriformes dominated the study area (55% - a total of 64 species). Our data showed a significant relationship between forest ecosystems and bird populations. Four species are present in all vegetation groups: the antelope, the hoopoe, the great tit, and the blackbird. We noted 47 sedentary species and 67 non-sedentary species. Three bird species have an IUCN conservation status: Egyptian vulture (Endangered - EN), turtle dove (Vulnerable - VU), and Dartford warbler (Near Threatened - NT). It is necessary to propose a management plan for the Machroha forest.
